Kenyans criticize senator over gun misuse
Twitter was abuzz with reactions after Nominated Senator Paul Njoroge was disarmed and charged with misusing his firearm in a shooting involving Vivo Energy boss Polycarp Igathe in Naivasha.
While some Kenyans expressed shock, others defended the senator saying it might have been a case of self-defence.
DJ Double Trouble (@DjDaboTrabo) said: “Such barbaric acts from our leaders/dealers should cease.”
Another Twitter user, Paul GPR (@pmcaxton), said: “People like Senator Paul Njoroge represent everything that is wrong within 254, and the impunity of some of our ‘leaders’. However, was it a case of rightful self-defence?”
According to Susan Kihika (@susankihika), if Mr Njoroge had a court order restraining Vivo from repossessing his property, “he may be justified in using force to protect it”.
Other Twitter users took a swipe at the legal system and potential lack of action in similar cases.
“Nominated Senator Paul Njoroge nearly killed a guy and his charge is ‘Creating Disturbance’! Kenyan Judiciary is a joke,” said Brian Mala (@brianmala1).
For some, the incident was nothing short of humorous while others felt his “gun skills” would be better put to use elsewhere.
Catz Winston (@CatzWinston) said: “Senator Njoroge should join KDF in Somali.”
And according to kymatudaniel (@kymatudaniel), Mr Njoroge “should just quit politics and join action movies. He pulled a stunt #RogueSenator”.
