Mahama Ayariga to sue universities over hike in school fees
Chairman of Parliament’s subsidiary legislation committee Mahama Ayariga says he will take legal action against universities in the country if they do not reverse the hike in fees for the 2017/2018 academic year.
According to him, the universities are required to seek Parliamentary approval for changes in their fees, but because they failed to do so before the house went on recess, the schools should maintain the fees from last academic year.
Some students of the University of Ghana petitioned Parliament last month to intervene over the hike in their school fees. The students said the increase in the fees will make it difficult for some of them to be able to pay.
Speaking to JoyFM, Mahama Ayariga said he will take the issue seriously and shall take legal actions against the universities that will not maintain the fees from last academic year pending Parliamentary approval of the new fees.
